The CBP Microbe• Two options:
– Engineer an ethanologen to produce cellulases and hemicellulases • E.g., Saccharomyces cerevisiae – Good ethanol production and tolerance, tolerance to inhibitors – Not very effective at producing cellulases – Engineer a lignocellulose degrader to be an efficient ethanol producer • E.g., Clostridium thermocellum – Naturally produce own enzymes for the degradation of lignocellulosic material – Low ethanol production and tolerance |
