Comparison between
CBP by C. phytofermentans
and
SSCF by S. cerevisiae 424A
• After 10 days, at a particle size of 0.5 mm, CBP yielded 2.8 g/L ethanol, which is 71.8% of that yielded by SSCF (3.9 g/L)
• Although at particle size 0.5 mm CBP sugar conversions were close to those of SSCF’s it is noteworthy that SSCF reached almost the same conversions in 5 days reaction, twice as fast as CBP.
• We did not optimize for conditions for SSCF! Ethanol production has the potential to be much higher for SSCF (commonly done with dilute acid pretreatment)
• This experiment was done at low solid loading which would be significantly reduced especially for CBP due to inhibition by solids and products
