Operating Costs
There are three main factors included in operating costs:
1. Types of Pretreatment
2. Variable Operating Cost
3. Residence Times
2. Variable Operating Cost
3. Residence Times
1. Types of Pretreatment:
•SSCF Plant uses Dilute Acid Pretreatment
•CBP Plant uses AFEX Pretreatment
•SSCF Plant uses Dilute Acid Pretreatment
•CBP Plant uses AFEX Pretreatment
CBP Plant cost is HIGHER than SSCF Plant in the terms of the Pretreatment Process.
2. Variable Operating Cost
• SSCF Plant uses a lot of enzymes for the saccharification and hydrolysis process
• CBP Plant uses microbes that produce enzymes during the process
• SSCF Plant uses a lot of enzymes for the saccharification and hydrolysis process
• CBP Plant uses microbes that produce enzymes during the process
For CBP, the enzyme broth cost of $507/Mg is eliminated completely, since C. phytofermentans secretes its own enzymes.
CBP has significantly LOWER variable operating costs than SSCF.
CBP has significantly LOWER variable operating costs than SSCF.
3. Residence Times
It seems that CBP is a better choice in terms of cost compared to SSCF.
BUT, the residence time (the time to produce assuming the same capital) affects the CBP to have a significantly LARGER (by 200%) cost compared to SSCF.
This raises the overall operating costs of CBP to be significantly HIGHER than that of SSCF
